I just read an article titled, "Wu-Tang Clan to Sell a Single Copy of Secret Double Album for Millions"
That's insane . . . the CD lies in an engraved silver and nickle box, handcrafted over three months by British-Moroccan sculptor Yahya.
”We’re about to sell an album like nobody else sold it before, We’re about to put out a piece of art like nobody else has done in the history of [modern] music. We’re making a single-sale collector’s item. This is like somebody having the scepter of an Egyptian king. The idea that music is art has been something we advocated for years … And yet its doesn’t receive the same treatment as art in the sense of the value of what it is, especially nowadays when it’s been devalued and diminished to almost the point that it has to be given away for free.”
I like that this entire "package" stands as a true Work-of-Art in its entirety, as well as in it's individual pieces. I also think there's really high potential for really cool work to be created when various artists from different mediums come together and truly collaborate to create an idea together. I feel like this is what we are moving towards here at Total Box. I think everything we produce here should have this Art feeling.
Music Artists x Visual Artists = W I N
I'll definitely stay tuned to see where this release goes.
